If There Was Something...

If there was something I wish I was really good at, it would be painting. I have always wanted to just be able to sit down, sketch and come come out with a brilliant painting that I actually liked. Last night I took a few of mom's painting books out of the cupboard and started reading. I was a little inspired and started to paint. I am not done yet, and hopefully it doesn't mess up, but I'm acutally liking it so far. Here is my acrylic painting:

I am pretty sure acrylic paint is the most useless paint I have ever tried to use. It dries too quick, hence not being able to blend well. There needs to be a medium between oil and acrilyc.

Discount Shopping

So today was a discount shopping day. I had a bunch of things to donate, so I dropped them off and browsed myself and got some real goodies for a bargain! I have discovered this tucked away and little known place in Kingston that sells second-hand/new donated items. However, there are usually tons of vintage items and amazing things that you wouldn't find at the Value Villages or Good Wills of the world.
By the way, I was also in Value Village today and has anyone else noticed the prices? Here in Kingston they are astronomical! blazers for 10.99-39.99 for second-hand things? It is like H&M or Forever 21, when popularity comes, so do the high prices. Anyway, needless to say I didn't buy anything in ValueVillage.
Here were my finds from the Mission store!

luggage

Amazing 70's luggage that is brand new! For $2 for both pieces, I couldn't resist.

glasses

amazing sunglasses! I was only going to buy the luggage but embarassingly I didn't have $2 on me, and I couldn't use my debit card on a purchase less than $5. So I swiped these brand new glasses for $3 each.

blazer

and tons of blazers and suits! All 3 piece suits are $10, all blazers are $6. This was such a heavy weight and lovely material, although I didn't buy it because I didn't want the rest of the suit.

Keep or Toss?

Ok, annual spring clean-up is upon me and I'm deciding what to keep and what to toss out/donate. There are so many things I'm debating, but here are a few...do I keep or toss?

70scoat

This is my camping coat. My mother bought this in the 70's as part of a ski suit. It's crazy and I love it.

Let Them Eat Cake

We took a drive this Saturday and ended up in Marmora. It is a sleepy little town just North of Belleville. You wouldn't know it, but it has a world renowned iron mine in its midst. Some food for thought, when excavating the iron ore, they removed 70 million TONS of waste rock.
On route to Marmora, we entrusted our good friend Emily the GPS to take us on a nice no-brainer path to the town. However, when the road became dirt and started to narrow we got a little worried...when we passed a sign that read "beyond this point the road is not maintained by the township", we were really worried. Emily led us here:

straight into a beaver pond. It might have worked, but we didn't have a 4X4 truck handy. Anyway, here we got to the mine and I'm standing on one of the many many tractor tires used to load up rock and iron ore.

you can see the mine tailings piled up in the distance.

This random picture is of a cake I decorated on Friday, and so ends my cake decorating lessons. I was rushing, trying to get it done before class was over, hence the blobbs and lack of detail. it has now disappeared.

Post Olympics

Today I decided to wear my Canadian Olympic sweater which I am very proud of. You can't get this one unless you want to pay over $350 on Ebay. Anyway, I love it and odn't let it out of my sight.

Today we took a road trip to Brockville and am I glad we did! If you are ever in the Brockville Ontario area, you MUST stop by Gilbert's Emporium. It is this amazing little vintage shop that has everything from fur coats to belts to jewelry and brands from Hudson's Bay to GUCCI. I spent at least an hour in that little shop and chatted up the store owner who was a doll! She jets off to Paris twice a year and brings back the most amazing things.
If you are around my age and live in Canada then you KNOW about Road to Avonlea and Wind At My Back. Well, the owner of this store provided the costumes for both shows. Quite an amazing store with a great owner.
My purchase: a Francois Marot purse from Paris.

Happy Day

I hope you all had a great St. Patty's Day, I know I did! I had my first green beer of my life that night..and a few more..but did not drink so much that I couldn't enjoy the night! We had a big table right in the middle of the bar with live Irish music. It was great.

I will be away this weekend, but hopefully I will be able to take some great pictures.

Lindsay Lohan sues E-Trade

Our off-the-wall girl Lindsay Lohan is sueing E-Trade for a baby commercial that portrays a baby named Lindsay as a "milkaholic". She is claiming that this baby is meant to be her. Check out the commercial, it's pretty funny. I can see the resemblance.
